Sister Benedicta Boland, OSB
"A Missourian by birth, Oklahoman by choice." This is how I describe my presence here in Oklahoma and more particularly as a Sister of Benedict of Red Plains Monastery. I made my life-choice at age sixteen after spending my two final years of high school with the Benedictine Sisters in Guthrie, Oklahoma. It was the Sisters praying the Divine Office of the Church - Liturgy of the Hours - that was my beckoning decision. This ongoing prayer by the Community continues to be the 'strong moment' of my daily life.

I have ministered to the Church of Oklahoma for more than 60 years - as teacher in parish schools, church musician and liturgist, and now as a certified spiritual director in the corporate ministry of the Sisters of Benedict of Red Plains Monastery. These 60 plus years of living Benedictine community life of prayer and work have been fulfilling for me personally. For what has been, THANKS; for what will be, 'YES!'

After acquiring my Master's Degree in Liturgical Studies at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., I served for five years in the Worship Office of the Diocese of Tulsa. I then became caregiver for my mother in her home in Missouri until her death in 1983.

Upon returning to Oklahoma City I resided at the Peace House residence, inaugurated and led the Oblate program and acted as initial formation director. Today, I am a spiritual director, and lead retreat groups and days of prayer here at the monastery.
