Sister Jan Futrell.
I have many happy memories since becoming a Benedictine sister: my 15 years of teaching English and journalism in high school, followed by 10 years of being director of an international spiritual formation program first in St. Louis and then in Denver, with some work in wonderful countries such as Australia, Africa, Canada, England, Ireland, and Singapore.
Back in Oklahoma City in the 1980's and 1990's, I was on staff for programs with the Archdiocese as well as doing spiritual direction and retreats within the ministry of our community, the Sisters of Benedict. I currently serve as prioress of Red Plains Monastery.
What do I do for relaxation and enjoyment? Well, as an "old English teacher", I enjoy reading novels-about 20 minutes a day. You'd be surprised how many get read over the years. And I enjoy nature's beauty on our monastery grounds, especially as this surrounds us at our times of community prayer. It's been a good life-joyful is my thanksgiving to our faithful God.
