2008 Calendar of Upcoming Community Events

40th Anniversary Celebration and 50/60th Jubilee Celebrations
Preparations are being made to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Sisters of Benedict, Red Plains Monastery on 21 June 2008. The celebration will take place at the Church of the Epiphany in Oklahoma City. At this time the community will also honor three Jubilarians. Sisters Eunice Ballmann and Roberta Schachle will celebrate 60 years of service to the Church of Oklahoma. Sister Elena Hernandez will celebrate 50 years of service.

Open House
Open House was held at the monastery on Sunday, April 13, celebrating twenty years of Benedictine hospitality in Piedmont, Oklahoma.

Sisters of Benedict Welcome New Oblates
The oblates gathered at the monastery on Saturday, April 12 to receive new members into their ranks. Three women became novices and three novices made their final oblation to Red Plains Monastery in the presence of Sr. Jan Futrell, prioress, and the sisters of the community, along with a number of friends. A reception was held afterward in the monastery dining room.

Red Plains Monastery Featured
The Archdiocese of Oklahoma City Heritage room displays various aspects of the history of the archdiocese. The Sisters of Benedict show their history as one of the featured displays this year. A visit there will give our history from its beginnings to the present.

April Rains
The 9 April found us having torrential rain both day and night. So much so that our pond in back overflowed its banks causing a small stream to become a quickly flowing river. The monastery itself was not touched, but there was water all around.
