November Sunrise November 16 Festivities Oklahoma statehood occurred on November 16, 1907. On this date in 2007 we celebrated our 100 anniversary of statehood. Guthrie being the first capitol, festivities were held there as well as in Oklahoma City, our present capitol. The sisters were asked to be a part of the Guthrie parade. Sisters from Tulsa joined us with some of us holding the banner and three sisters on the float. The rest of us enjoyed watching the parade. Afterward we were treated to lunch. Welcome Christine That evening the sisters had a celebration of their own. The sisters welcomed Christine to begin her formation as a candidate of Red Plains Monastery. Christine was given the Benedictine medal and the community's prayer book. Christine's family joined us for the celebration followed by vespers and dinner. The Candidacy time is spent studying the Rule and Liturgy.
October has been a rather quiet month here at the monastery. Except for the weather. The night of October 21 we had quite a rain storm with a good amount of hail. In fact, in one corner of our garden it looked like it had snowed. The weather has definitely turned cooler, but not that cool. Several retreats were held both at the library and the art barn. The Gourd Prayer Bowl retreat was filled to capacity. Another has been scheduled for February. Saturday, October 27 Sr. Melissa will guide a Labyrinth Retreat. If you are interested go to our Programs & Retreats Page and sign up. While there you can also check out our upcoming programs.
