OBLATES of RED PLAINS MONASTERY

We Oblates of Red Plains Monastery
are women and men
who gather together to share community
and to participate in
and with the lives of the Sisters of Benedict.
We seek to live simple and caring lives
guided daily by the wisdom of Saint Benedict
in order more fully to love and serve God
and those who live in the world around us.

Three Oblate Inquirers became novices of Red Plains Monastery on April 12, along with three novices who made their oblation to Red Plains Monastery.

Who are Benedictine Oblates?
Oblates of St. Benedict are women and men spiritually affiliated with a Benedictine community, but living outside of the monastery. They share in the spiritual life, prayers and good works of a particular Benedictine community. They pledge to live their lives according to the spirit of the Rule of St. Benedict.

What do Oblates do?
The Oblates of Red Plains Monastery---

  • Gather monthly for prayer and study of the Rule of Saint Benedict with application of Benedictine values to their individual lives.

  • Remain closely associated with the Community by committing themselves to daily prayer and service to and with the Community

  • Share Benedictine spirituality through their involvement in their parish/church and local community.

How do I become an Oblate of Red Plains Monastery?
  • Contact the Oblate Director expressing your interest.

  • Attend the next scheduled Oblate meeting.

  • Begin a study of the Rule of Saint Benedict under the direction of the Oblate Director.

  • At this time you can request to become a "Candidate". If it is discerned that God is calling you to become an Oblate, you then proceeed to become a novice.
