Red Plains Monastery Piedmont Oklahoma __________________________________________________________________________ "Let nothing be preferred to the Work of God." Rule of Saint Benedict Benedictine life is aimed at seeking God within community. Saint Benedict in his Rule calls the monastic community to cultivate an attitude of prayer which permeates its whole life. As communities of worship, we center our lives around Liturgy of the Hours (communal prayer), lectio divina, private prayer and Eucharist. Monthly we celebrate Taize Prayer. Commitment to prayer is the foundation of community life, unites us to the wider church, and gives meaning and purpose to our manual labor and ministries. Our daily common prayer is the recurring sign of our unity with Christ and with each other as we proclaim God's saving presence in our midst and in our world. Hymns, prayers, psalms, canticles, silence and readings form the structure of the Liturgy of the Hours. As the Sisters gather morning and evening in the oratory, they: - listen to, - ponder, - and respond to the Word of God. Through this unceasing praise all time is made holy. The Liturgy of the Hours provides the daily context for our Gospel ministry to others. Community Prayer Schedule
Eucharist is celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays. Wednesday morning the Sisters celebrate Eucharist at the neighboring Carmelite Monastery. Times differ for special feast days and holy days. Occasionally scheduled times of prayer change, so please call, 405-373-4565, before coming to celebrate with us. Return to top of page In our search for God each Sister spends time daily in private prayerful reflection. This provides a basic foundation for living our Benedictine monastic life. Through reflective reading of Scripture one comes to a deepened experience of the Word of God. The Word of God heard and pondered sends one forth to bring God's healing love to others.
The regular time for lectio is left to the discretion of each sister. On Thursdays (except the first Thursday of the month) the Sisters gather for group Lectio as preparation for Sunday Liturgy. These gatherings are open to anyone interested in joining the community for Lectio. If interested, please call 405-373-4565. Rhythm of Lectio Divina
The form of Taize' Prayer comes from a Christian monastic community near Cluny, France, begun to bring peace and reconciliation to the area. It is a prayer form that is now celebrated world-wide as one way of allowing God's presence to penetrate to one's innermost being.
